It was working perfectly fine, until the key battery died. By pressing the “load test” button, you’re simulating a start cycle. A good place to start will be to check the neutral safety switch (see if it will start in neutral).
If the reverse lamps fuse blows, the starter will not operate because it thinks the transmission is not in p or n. Your first step must be to check the battery. Look for any oil leaks.
